Immediate Past President of Leicestershire Law Society 2018-19
In 2018 Leicestershire Law Society held their Annual General Meeting at Provincial House, New Walk and after a review of the year from Jonathan Foster, the meeting saw the official inauguration of Bushra Ali of Bushra Ali Solicitors.
Bushra held the office as President for one year (2018/19), during which time she acted as the public face of the organisation.
Bushra is the Director of Bushra Ali Solicitors and has been an active member of Leicestershire Law Society for many years.
Being elected into Office, Bushra states “As the second Asian female President I feel it is an absolute honour to be given this opportunity to serve The Society as President”.
When asked what her aims and objectives are over her presidential year, Bushra responded “having lived in 5 different cities before settling in Leicestershire, I feel that Leicestershire needs to be applauded for its cultural diversity both in the legal and other professions as well as throughout the community. There is a real sense of cohesion and togetherness in Leicestershire. We have high achieving women in Leicestershire and need to celebrate not only their success but also their resilience.
Some of my objectives include having a ‘community- focus’ for the year. Events in the over the year included Summer drinks with Dignitaries and the Business community, a dinner celebrating ‘diversity in the community’, a Summer fete, Leicestershire’s Got Talent, an event to celebrate the newly qualified legal professionals in Leicestershire and our annual awards dinner.”
Bushra’s charities for 2018/19 were the Zinthiya Trust and After 18. These charities focus on supporting women subjected to domestic abuse that may have no recourse to public funds and the projects have a focus on educational and developmental activities for those they support.
When asked what she feels will be the highlight of the year Bushra said “For the first time since its inception the Local Society will be hosting the Annual National Conference. This is going to be a real opportunity to raise the profile of the local Law Society including raising the profile of Leicester. Legal professionals from cities including London, Devon, Somerset, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester and Wales are expected to travel to Leicester for this conference.
I am particularly excited about the summer fete and the talent show which are both planned to be community events raising funds for the two charities and celebrating talent within the local community.
I look forward to the challenge, but am also looking forward to celebrating what the people of Leicestershire have achieved.”
