CHRISTL HUGHES MBE 2020-2021 Leicestershire Law Society President
In September Leicestershire Law Society held its AGM by Zoom.
Following a review of 2019/20 from outgoing President Glynis Wright the meeting saw the election and formal inauguration of Christl Hughes, the 10th female President in 170 years and the first woman to be elected to the office for a second time.
After 30 years in High St practice Christl is a Trustee and Immediate Past Chair of The Solicitors’ Charity and was Chair of the former national Association of Women Solicitors. She was awarded the MBE in the 2020 New Year’s Honours List for services to Equality & Charity.
Her plans for 2020/21 include continuing to maintain the high profile of Leicestershire Law Society as one of the strongest and most vibrant local law societies and continuing to support local solicitors in and after the current pandemic situation.
If you would like to have a meeting with Christl or to discuss how you can get more involved with the Society, please email office@leicestershirelawsociety.org.uk

Chosen Charity- SBA
The Solicitors’ Charity is a charity working for solicitors both past and present and their families. Every year the charity helps hundreds of people of all ages and backgrounds who are unable to support themselves financially, due to ill health, life-changing disabilities, unemployment, low or no income, family crisis or older age.
During the COVID-19 pandemic and in its aftermath, the charity is making more funds available, widening the support provided and offering information and support to help any solicitor who is impacted by the virus.
The charity provides welfare grants and other support grants, assistance with getting back into work and access to advice on welfare benefits and managing personal debt. SBA also works closely with partners offering emotional well-being support and regulatory and legal advice.
