School Governor Recruitment Campaign

Leicestershire Schools Need Governors

Released on:
01/01/2010

Have you got what it takes to help improve education in the County’s schools?
Are you looking for a challenge that allows you to put something back into the community?
If so Leicestershire schools need you.

A recruitment drive is underway across the county with the aim to attract over 300 new school governors.

As a school governor, you will have the opportunity to contribute ideas and influence decisions that helps ensure that every child at school reaches their full potential.

Governors work as a team and have a wide variety of ways in which they serve the needs of their school and play a vital part in raising standards and achievement.

If you have a particular skill or talent, great – but even more important is an interest and enthusiasm for improving education locally.

Once appointed the County Council holds induction sessions to give an initial overview of a governor’s role and responsibilities. So from an early stage the newly appointed governor can start to contribute to the team of governors.
This is then followed up with ongoing training to keep governors up to date with new legislation, initiatives or special interests.

Ivan Ould, Cabinet member for the Children and Young People’s Service , said : ‘This recruitment drive is essential to help the county’s schools maintain and improve the high standards already achieved. I encourage people to get in touch and to find out how they can become a governor and help ensure the best possible outcome for the children and young people.’

To find out more about becoming a school governor go to the County Council’s website at: www.leics.gov.uk/governors or call the Governor Development Service on 0116 305 6435. Alternatively you can contact your local school.
