Client Care
Your solicitor is required to give you written information about the terms under which they will act for you when you become a client. As to the cost, in some cases, such as buying or selling a house, a firm quotation may be offered but in others, particularly where court proceedings are involved, this is much more difficult. You can discuss this with your solicitor when he or she begins to act for you. You will be told about the terms upon which you will be charged, how you will be kept informed about costs and the terms of payment. In some cases, regrettably far fewer than a few years ago, you may qualify for Legal Aid and again your solicitor will advise you on this.
In the experience of the Society problems between clients and solicitors mostly occur through misunderstandings or lack of communication. The Society, through its Manager at office@leicestershiresociety.org.uk or 01234 348005 is able to give common sense guidance when a problem arises and in most cases this solves the problem. As previously stated, however, legal help or advice cannot be given.
Members of the public requiring more comprehensive information about client care should log on to www.lawsociety.org.uk and access the Consumer Complaints Service section or alternatively email enquiries@lawsociety.org.uk.
